Intelligent
Influencing™ has
been designed to meet the needs of people whose role requires
them to influence others. The workshop is designed for those
who need additional skills in navigating company politics and
dealing with the perceived power difference between superiors,
colleagues and customers. Many people describe the emotions
associated with having to influence someone from a position
of lower status or power. In many cases people describe feelings
of discomfort, anxiety and even rejection. Intelligent
Influencing™ is
a one-day workshop that introduces practical strategies to
help people identify and reduce the unhelpful emotions that
get in the way of successful influencing. When armed with these
skills people become more confident in their ability to influence
others.
We recently ran this workshop for
a team of managers who were responsible for influencing key
stakeholders involved
in product
research and design. These managers had to deal with highly
qualified and well respected leaders in their field. Some
of the challenges raised included the emotions associated with
rejection and frustration. The workshop helped these managers
to put such challenges in perspective and enabled them to
focus
on the influencing objective without taking things personally.
This was new territory for most and it enabled them to approach
these key stakeholders with renewed confidence.
